UKCAT/BMAT Courses

Here at Duff Miller College we offer UKCAT and BMAT training courses during the autumn term. These cover essential elements of the tests, like logic and verbal reasoning, and offer training in writing essays on ethical issues. The students are also supported in completing their UCAS forms to the best of their abilities.

With Oxford and Cambridge graduates on the staff, we have the expertise to give advice on specific areas of the Oxbridge application process including supplementary reading, college selection and interview preparation.

UKCAT

The UKCAT is the UK Clinical Aptitude Test which is widely recognised by prestigious universities, and is compulsory to be considered for medical and dental schools (excluding those who require a BMAT qualification).

The UKCAT does not contain any scientific content, therefore it is not a exam that can be revised for. It focuses on exploring the cognitive powers of students and other attributes of the individual that is considered to be valuable to the health care system.

UKCAT is required for entry to the following institutions:
-University of Durham
-King's College London
-Peninsular Medical School
-Brighton and Sussex Medical School

If you are still unsure about whether you are required to take the UKCAT, contact the universities that you are applying to.

Medical Courses that require UKCAT
UKCAT is designed to test the individual's aptitude rather than academic achievement. The examination consists of five areas and lasts for 2 hours.

* Verbal reasoning– tests the individual’s ability to think logically and to arrive at a satisfactory conclusion.
* Quantitative reasoning– tests the individual’s ability to solve numerical problems.
* Abstract reasoning– tests the individual’s ability to distinguish between useful and irrelevant information.
* Decision analysis – tests the individual’s ability to deal with various forms of information, deciphering it and making informed judgements.
* Non-cognitive analysis - identifies the attributes and characteristics of the individual that may contribute to the student’s success in the Medical Field.

UKCAT Training Day at Duff Miller

Although the UKCAT exam tests a student's aptitude rather than scientific knowledge there is still preparation a candidate needs to carry out. A UKCAT training programme is available at Duff Miller Sixth Form College on 11th September 2010 and will cover how to approach abstract reasoning and decision analysis which is a key aspect of UKCAT. Further, the afternoon session will cover many practice questions which are based on a similar style to the UKCAT questions. The cost of our UKCAT training day is £220

If you require further information on this course or wish to enrol please contact Rachel McDonagh on registrar@duffmiller.com or download an application form from the link below.
