Sadly, all schools can have a problem with bullying at some point. Although bullying is not prevalent at Duff Miller, we have ensured there is an anti-bullying policy in place so that issues can be dealt with swiftly.
Bullying behaviour includes:
- Name calling and teasing - Physical violence - Threats - Isolating individuals from group activities
An individual may bully because :
- They don't know their behaviour is offensive and damaging. - They are copying other members of society they are influenced by (e.g peers or family members). - They lack adequate social skills. - They may have underlying personal issues that they have trouble coping with.
Take Action
If you are being bullied, see Marcia Denning immediately.
- Stay calm - Be specific about what has happened, including names of those involved. - Keep your personal tutor informed about the situation.
If the problem persists:
- Make an appointment to see the Principal so he can take appropriate action. - You also have the choice to take the matter to CIFE and explain the situation and how you would like to see it dealt with.
If you are accused of bullying:
- Your parents will be informed. - They will be asked to meet with your tutor and the Principal. - The appropriate disciplinary action will then be taken.
