A-Level Statistics builds upon the Handling Data section of Higher Level GCSE Maths. While many students also study A-Level Maths, there is no need to have studied Maths beyond GCSE. There is a separate GCSE qualification in Statistics, but this is not needed to study A-Level Statistics.
The course aims to develop a number of skills, including a thorough understanding of statistics and statistical processes, the ability to construct a logical statistical argument and the ability to recognise incorrect statistical reasoning.
The AS component of the course includes the statistical knowledge, skills and techniques used in a number of other subjects such as Biology, Business Studies, Economics, Geography and Psychology. The A2 component of the course develops an understanding of the calculation of statistical measures, and of their application and interpretation.
