A-level Retakes – Britain's Gender Gap

Whether it's SATs, GCSEs or A-level results, the media have always highlighted a big gap between the genders. But a study by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) can officially conclude that the educational gender gap in Britain in bigger than any other developed country. With so much speculation around which sex is more academically successful, it's no wonder that all major media sources are left wondering which team is going to be taking A-level retakes each year.

Research conducted on around 20 million 15-year olds in 57 participating countries showed that British schoolboys scored on average 10 points higher in the science tests than schoolgirls. Leading academics were extremely disappointed with such findings as this reinforced an outdated stereotype that girls are not suited to the subject.

In 2008, the Telegraph published an article that highlighted that science was 'one grade harder' than other subjects such as drama, sociology and art. With the option of A-level retakes and extended education, could male pupils overtake the girls in the results race?

Avoid Clearing with Retakes

For male or female students, the Telegraph and other media bodies have advised that A-level resits and retaking exams is the only way to avoid being left behind. Clearing is used for university applicants who have not managed to secure a place for the current year. Over 30,000 students gain a place through the clearing process each year.

If you have good exam results and you apply on time, you should not have to go through this process of the unknown. If you are unhappy with your exam grades, A-level resits can ensure that you get on the course of your choice.

In 2008, teenagers achieved record results with a national pass rate soaring above 97 per cent for the very first time. The number of pupils awarded with A grades also rose significantly, so if you want to beat the competition and get an offer from your dream university then A-level retakes is your answer.
