Sport Science includes both physiological and psychological factors. Students are introduced to the function of the cardiovascular system, biomechanics of human movements, the structure of skeletal muscles and aggression theories in different sports.
Sport Science offers students the opportunity to undertake an A-level with a practical component, unique only to this subject.
The practical side of this A-level allows students to participate in physical exercise, outside of the classroom. In modules 3 and 6 students will be assessed while undertaking a specific sport of their choice. The course participants investigate motor muscle skills, coordination and general sporting abilities that will be monitored and evaluated. Alternatively pupils can undertake a written assignment based on the observation of other performers, in a sporting environment. Either way, all practical aspects equate to 25% of the total A-level mark.
After the successful completion of Sport Science as an A-level, doors are then open. Past students have gone on to study anatomy and physiology, sport psychology, or exercise science and health in further education.
