A-Level Spanish & GCSE Spanish

Nowadays Spanish is a language spoken in more than 20 different countries by more than 300 million people. This course will introduce students to the rich variety and diversity of cultures of Spain and Latinoamerica. Students are encouraged to participate actively in the class whether individually or in group work. Although English is not forbidden in class, it is preferred that they try to speak only Spanish as fluency and confidence in the language is seen as more important than making mistakes.

The A-level course is designed to help students to make the transition from GCSE to a higher level of Spanish, consolidating and extending their knowledge of grammar as well as concentrating on a new series of topics such as youth concerns, the world of employment, new technology, environmental issue and many more from a Spanish perspective.

The materials will be taken from authentic sources such as Spanish newspapers or magazines. Articles will be first analysed and then discussed in the class drawing on the differences between English and Spanish cultures. Students will also use Spanish tapes, recorded television programmes and extracts from films in order for them to develop their listening skills with confidence but also to acquire a first hand knowledge of the Spaniards today.
