A-Level Religious Studies & GCSE Religious Studies

Religious Studies provides a fascinating insight into the diverse character of spiritual belief. This is a core A-level, which has something to offer students irrespective of their own beliefs. Religion is an excellent preparation for many university courses as it is of interest to students studying Law, History, Journalism and a great many other subjects which require clarity of thought, textual analysis and ethical comment. Examination of religious themes is also provided in courses such as History, Politics and Sociology; Religious Studies can therefore be used to compliment and balance a range of A-level options.

For the coursework, students are urged to pick topics that fit their own interests and to which they feel they can make a contribution. In recent years, students have chosen themes such as ‘Thomas Beckett’, ‘Mother Teresa’, ‘Martin Luther King’, ‘Women in the New Testament’ and ‘The Unique Nature of the Passion and Resurrection in John’s Gospel’ to discuss.

Religious Studies at Duff Miller aims to promote an inquiring, critical and sympathetic approach to religion and the ways in which this is reflected in experience, belief and practice. Religious studies is not bound by any narrow doctrine but promotes an open and flexible approach.
