A-Level Physics & GCSE Physics

Physics is a subject of enormous breadth. It enables us to build bridges, launch satellites and make delicate instruments for microsurgery. It has given us the Internet and strong, lightweight sports equipment, it extends into every area of our lives.

The A-level Physics syllabus at Duff Miller allows us to explore many of the exciting aspects of the subject ranging from basic explanations of how the stars evolve and planets move (astrophysics), to the latest technology in medicine such as nuclear magnetic imaging (medical physics). There are also options in Material Technology and Particle Physics.

Physics can be described as having two aspects. First it is a body of information containing the rules that govern the natural world and help us to appreciate our surroundings. Secondly, physics provides the tools for the many human activities - of engineers, astronomers, electronics designers, medical researchers and others – that allow us to alter and construct the material world to suit our needs and to pursue our wish to discover the unknown.

As a student taking Modern Physics at Duff Miller, you will develop the skills of being able to investigate and manipulate information analyse data and most importantly apply your knowledge effectively under examination conditions. Apart from examination success we will also aim for you to enjoy your physics, regardless of the higher education field you intend to enter.
