At Duff Miller German is a mix of a traditional (grammar lessons) and creative approach tailored to each student’s needs. The emphasis is on both spoken and written communication. All four key skills reading, writing, speaking and listening are taught.
Coursework is encouraged as one of the options available to A-level students. This gives the student the chance to develop their own interests, as a piece of coursework can cover any topic related to a German-speaking country from the Berlin Wall, analysis of an artist’s work, study of an expatriate German community to Einstein. The study of both classic and modern texts is also encouraged.
For GCSE students, coursework topics might include making a leaflet on healthy living and diet, a tourist attraction or a report on school life.
Duff Miller is ideally situated for access to the nearby Goethe Institute. It is an excellent resource as it houses an excellent library with A-level topic folders, tapes, videos, papers and magazines.
